About Travis Simmons
Artist Travis Simmons works mostly in mixed media, using ink, oil paint, and pastel. He played music and wrote poetry in his teens. He started painting while attending VSU in Valdosta and studied philosophy and religion. Toward the end of his time at school, he took a couple of art classes. “My art is how I see the world, philosophically existential and psychologically expressionistic. I make my art the way I made music and wrote poetry, through trial and error, subtraction, and addition. Many people say they find comfort in my art and others say they find it disturbing. I take that as a sign that I’m doing something right.”
Travis received First Place awards in both the painting and mixed media categories for the Turner Center for the Arts “Spring Into The Arts Exhibit”. He was a Featured Artist in the art edition of New Wave Chicken in Hawaii. He has had a solo show at the Turner Center and has exhibited his work in Athens, Douglasville, and several local Valdosta establishments. Travis is currently exhibiting at Curate and Sublime in downtown Valdosta and Wiregrass Gallery in Thomasville.
